I have been an artist for the better part of four decades now. I was attracted to art when I was still in my teens, as I completed my bachelor's degree in science in the small, cultural town of Tumakooru, near Bengaluru. Supported by my father and family, I formalised this passion for art in my 20s, when I enrolled to study, via correspondence course, with the legendary artist M.T.V. Acharya. Under his tutelage, I gained a holistic education of art, from understanding the historical contexts to honing my skills across numerous forms and techniques. A favorite activity of mine, enhanced at the Acharya Chitrakala Bhavana (ACB), was to participate in weeklong art camps at historical monuments, rural sceneries and natural landscapes and live draw and paint these idyllic scenes. I also regularly benefitted from indoor lectures and live portrait sessions.
After my Diploma in Fine Arts from the ACB, I set up my own art school in Koramangala, called Kinnari Kala Kutira. This hub for all things fine art has been a thriving centre for the development of innumerable artists of all ages over the last few decades. In its current form, I offer flexible, tailor-made art courses for everyone, from the school-going teenager beginning to gain an interest in fine art, to the IT professional looking to get away from the humdrum of a desk job.
